England’s preparations for Euro 2024 get properly underway this weekend with the visit the might Brazil to Wembley Stadium for a friendly.
Gareth Southgate’s side welcome the South Americans to the capital city having gone unbeaten in all 10 of their matches since their defeat to France in the quarter finals of the World Cup in 2022.
The Three Lions have won eight of those games, which saw them finish top of a potentially tough Group C in qualification for this summer’s Euros, finishing ahead of the likes of defending champions Italy as well as Ukraine, who were quarter finalists in the last edition.
Saturday’s match against Brazil will be the first of four pre-tournament friendlies, with Belgium also visiting Wembley next Tuesday before hosting Bosnia and Iceland in June prior to the tournament’s kick off.
Southgate’s men are the current favourites to win would be their first ever Euros title, and kick off their campaign this summer against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen in Group C, before taking on Denmark in Frankfurt and finishing their group stage in Cologne against Slovenia.
Brazil make the trip to Europe also in preparation for their own tournament this summer, with the Copa America taking place in the United States alongside the Euros in Germany.
Dorival Junior is the five-time World Cup champions’ new head coach following the end to Fernando Diniz’s unsuccessful short spell as caretaker manager, under whom the nation won just two of their opening six World Cup qualifiers.
Junior takes over a team who have lost their last three matches, which leaves them currently down in sixth in the standings to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Like England, this will be the first of four friendlies before their Copa America campaign kicks off in June, with Brazil heading to Madrid next week to take on Spain at the Bernabeu, before they play Mexico and the USA in June.
The Selecao head into this summer’s tournament as second favourites behind world champions Argentina to win what would be their 10th Copa America title.
Their campaign to become champions of South America for the first time since 2019 starts in Inglewood, CA where they will meet one of Honduras or Costa Rica, before heading to Paradise, NV to play Paraguay after which they’ll play Colombia in Santa Clara, CA.
The last two meetings between England and Brazil have both ended in draws, though England’s win previously makes them three matches unbeaten against the South Americans, however Brazil have lost only once to the Three Lions in 34 years.
talkSPORT BET have boosted several of their odds ahead of England’s crunch game with Brazil on Saturday night, one of which, which sees England to win, Jude Bellingham to score and over 2.5 goals at 7/1 looks like a very tempting offer.
