The Dutch media is once again clamouring for Ronald Koeman to start Wout Weghorst in the Euro 2024 semi-final against England on Wednesday evening. The Burnley forward has been impactful off the bench for Oranje so far during the tournament, looking more of a threat than the starting line-up has so far.
During the quarter-final win over Türkiye, the striker replaced Steven Bergwijn at half-time and his physicality caused plenty of problems for the Turkish defence. Weghorst saved the Dutch side in the opening game against Poland, a result that meant they qualified in 3rd place in the group and ended up on this side of the draw.
While Cody Gakpo has arguably been the sides best player, for the Dutch media the side have looked better with Weghorst starting. However, Koeman is rarely influenced by the media and is likely to stick with bringing the Burnley forward off of the bench.
The Netherlands and England will face on in the Euro 2024 semi-final in Dortmund on Wednesday.
