The Toyota Corolla made its debut in Germany in 1971 – and sold 1.25 million units in this country by 2023. The Corolla, now in its twelfth generation, is the best-selling vehicle in the world with more than 50 million units sold.
The British plant in Burnaston plays a central role within Toyota’s European manufacturing network and was established in 1989. Since the plant’s founding, the company has invested more than 3.25 billion euros in the facility to continually introduce the latest technologies and production methods. As a result, it was the first production site outside Japan to manufacture hybrid vehicles – today, Burnaston remains a center of excellence for electrified drivetrain technology, which is now used in all locally produced models.
About 85 percent of these cars are exported. Darius Mikolajczak, Managing Director of Toyota Manufacturing UK (TMUK) in Burnaston, explains:
“This milestone is more than just a number. It reflects our contribution to the local economy and our commitment to building ever better cars – through new technologies and strong relationships with suppliers and partners. This success is a testament to the dedication of all our employees, past and present.”
Currently, the 5-door Corolla with a 140 PS strong 1.8-liter hybrid drive is available for private leasing at monthly rates starting from 269 euros*, with the Touring Sports station wagon version costing ten euros more per month. A down payment is not required for this offer, regardless of body style, equipment, or engine type.
