A keyword search for “Keir Starmer,” and “Pub” on Google yielded a BBC report, dated April 19, 2021, featuring snippets from the viral footage. “The Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, has been thrown out of a pub in Bath after he was confronted by the landlord over lockdown restrictions. Rod Humphris, who co-runs The Raven pub, said he was unhappy with Labour’s response to government lockdown measures,” the report stated.
Carrying the video of the incident, The Telegraph report from April 2021 stated that while campaigning ahead of the local elections, Starmer “was confronted by publican Rod Humphris, who said he was “incandescent” over Labour’s reluctance to oppose the Government’s Covid-19 measures.”
“After speaking to Mr Humphris in the street outside of The Raven, which describes itself as a “traditional old English pub”, the Labour leader sought to move inside with local mayoral candidate Dan Norris. However, he was followed into the venue by Humphris, who proceeded to shout at him to “get out of my pub”, before being restrained by a man believed to be one of Sir Keir’s personal protection officers,” the report added.
Another report by Guardian further corroborated that Starmer was “prevented from entering the Raven in the centre of Bath by Rod Humphris, the pub’s landlord, who loudly castigated Starmer for supporting restrictions to limit the spread of coronavirus.”
Starmer assumed the UK Prime Ministerial office following the Labour party’s landslide victory in the general elections in July 2024.
Hence, an old video showing a man preventing Keir Starmer from entering a pub over his stand on COVID-19 restrictions has been misleadingly shared as recent.
