Germany’s “Welt-TV” is currently reporting that former Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and FC Bayern München head-coach Thomas Tuchel is in negotiations with the English FA over the English vacant head-coaching position.
Germany’s main cable news network presently reports that Thomas Tuchel may be in line to replace Gareth Southgate as the head-coach of England’s National team. The 51-year-old has been linked with moves to club teams on the Isle since leaving Bayern at the end of last season via mutual consent.
No other German news sources are corroborating the rumors at this point. Tuchel has also been linked with Manchester United. The English FA is known to be seeking a big name following the disappointing work of Lee Carlisle as an interim trainer.
Tuchel maintains popularity on the Isle following his Champions’ League triumph with Chelsea in 2021. The former Dortmund and PSG trainer could be reunited with FCB striker Harry Kane and potentially fill the desire to once again entrust the Three Lions to a foreign coach.
England have been coached by home-grown managers since Fabio Capello’s regime ended in 2012. There has been some nostalgia in English footballing circles for a non-English coach following the recent death of the first ever foreign gaffer to lead the team, Sven Gøran Eriksson.
