England have topped their group, so if Italy progress behind Switzerland, Gareth Southgate’s men are likely to be on their path in the EURO 2024 quarter-final.
The bracket is starting to take shape with the group stages coming to a close and the Azzurri will face Switzerland in the Round of 16 on Saturday June 29.
The quarter-final is going to be between the winners of those two ties, scheduled for July 6.
That would be a replay of the EURO 2020 Final, which ended 1-1 at Wembley Stadium with the Nazionale emerging victorious in a penalty shoot-out.
Notably, Italy are also on the ‘preferable’ side of the bracket, avoiding Germany, Spain, Portugal and France, who they cannot be up against until the Final.
England are so far the biggest potential opponent on this side, along with the winners of Group E.
That will be anyone from Belgium, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine, who going into the final game are all on three points.
England took first place in the lowest-scoring group of all, thanks to a 1-0 win over Serbia, 1-1 draw with Denmark and 0-0 stalemate with Slovenia.
