The Libya British Business Council (LBBC) reports that it enjoyed a productive visit to Benghazi, (5 to 7 November) highlighting the potential for UK-Libya business collaboration.
The Chairman of the LBBC, Peter Millett said: “This visit marks a step change in the UK’s business relationship with Libya. We found a clear commitment from all our interlocutors to growing the Libyan economy, modernising its infrastructure and upgrading its services. There was a tangible sense of momentum towards working together with the United Kingdom to deliver a better future for Libyan citizens. The LBBC is excited to be part of this process and looks forward to a strong partnership with the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund (LDRF) and the private sector.”
The first day included meetings with the LDRF and key Libyan private sector companies. The LBBC reported that LDRF Head, Belgasem Haftar, emphasised the Fund’s mission to rebuild infrastructure and improve healthcare and education. British Ambassador Martin Longden noted that these projects could drive significant economic and societal transformation.
The LBBC delegation also visited the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) to discuss development projects in eastern Libya’s oil fields and the need for UK expertise. They met with Wahda Bank leaders to explore project financing and digital transformation in Libya’s banking sector.
On the second day, the LBBC attended the Libya Build event, meeting Tanmia 360, and were introduced to senior representatives from key holding companies. They also connected with the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, to strengthen business ties.
The delegation participated in two panels on digital transformation in healthcare and education, discussing how technology can enhance these sectors.
The visit concluded with a meeting with the National Development Agency, focusing on future UK-Libya collaboration. The LBBC expresses gratitude to all Libyan partners for their commitment to building sustainable partnerships, setting the stage for future economic growth.
