The charging platform for electric vehicles by Octopus Energy has announced another expansion and now aims to represent the largest platform for consumers in Europe with nearly 850,000 connected charging stations. Under the “one card, one app” model, the goal is to simplify on-the-go charging. After making a breakthrough in the British market, Octopus’s so-called Electroverse expanded its free app across Europe last year. The platform is now integrated with 950 charging points, including InstaVolt, Osprey, IONITY, MFG, ChargePlace Scotland, as well as Aral pulse, TotalEnergies, Powerdot, Be Charge, and Free To X. European drivers can access it in 40 countries. The app is available in 20 languages and offers access to around 80 percent of public charging stations in Europe.
The popularity of the platform has grown exponentially: within the last 12 months, there has been an almost tripling of the customer base (+180 percent). In the UK – and soon in Europe – Octopus electricity customers can pay for public charging costs through their monthly electricity bill. The system is also available for companies with electric vehicle fleets. The platform offers paid add-on features, such as customizable reporting functions, to simplify the operation of electric fleets. Meanwhile, registrations of electric cars in Europe continue to rise. In 2023, nearly one in five newly registered cars was an electric vehicle.
“We founded Electroverse with a clear mission: to make charging electric cars on the go as easy as possible. One card and one app – that’s all drivers need to access nearly 850,000 charging stations. We’re now approaching the 1 million mark and have become the largest charging platform for electric cars in Europe,” explains Zoisa North-Bond of Octopus Electroverse.
