London (dpa) – Thomas Tuchel, the new head coach of the England football team, is pleased to be moving back to the UK for his new job. “I love to live in England,” said Tuchel, who has been presented as the new coach of the Three Lions, as the English national squad is dubbed. “It is the country, the humour, the way of life and the attitude,” said the 51-year-old, who will begin his new job on 1 January. “I want to be close to the Premier League and I want to be close to the majority of the players.” He had already lived in London during his time as coach at FC Chelsea, with whom he won the 2021 Champions League.
Tuchel has set himself an ambitious goal in his new role. He wants to take England to victory in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico. If he’s successful, it would be the first World Cup title for the Three Lions for 60 years. “We speak out very clearly what we want to achieve. We are absolutely open about it,” said the former Bayern Munich, Paris St. Germain and Mainz 05 coach.
