In Westminster Tube station BP has paid for a series of posters. A burly man in a high-viz jacket and helmet, accompanied by the text: “An estimated 81,000 jobs supported across the UK in 2023.” Another is captioned: “Developing lower carbon energy solutions.”
The adverts, in a dingy tunnel that leads to an exit on Whitehall, feel cheap. A once great behemoth of British business reduced to taking out ads in an attempt to deter the new government from slapping another tax on the oil and gas industry.
In America, they would at least pay for a huge billboard on Times Square. Or, better, erect a museum.
I have just come back from Atlanta, Georgia. I had a free morning and decided to visit one
