Ollie Watkins might not yet have had the on-field impact he would have hoped for at the European Championship, but he has shown footballers can be just as heroic off the field in a heartwarming video.
The Aston Villa striker came into the competition off a stunning season, in which he propelled his club into the Champions League, but he has so far had just one appearance off the bench against Denmark.
That has not dimmed his spirits though, and after seeing a young fan in tears after his mum informed him that he was unable to have the same haircut as the 28-year-old due to it not being “Afro”, Watkins gifted him his match jersey from England’s dramatic last 16 win against Slovakia on Sunday.
Watkins will be hoping to make his mark in the competition when the Three Lions take on Switzerland on Saturday, but for one young boy, he has already done that tenfold.
A great clip and a reminder of the great things both football and footballers can do for their many fans, and society as a whole.
