It’s an open secret that FC Bayern will rebuild its defence in the summer. There could be changes in the centre of defence in particular. According to the latest reports, the record champions have their eye on Man City star John Stones.
Bayern have been linked with numerous centre-backs in recent weeks. Leverkusen professional Jonathan Tah in particular is said to be high on Munich’s wish list.
As the British portal Football Insider reports, Munich have another candidate on their radar: Manchester City’s John Stones.
Stones has lost his regular place under Guardiola
The 29-year-old Stones was a key player for the English champions for many years, but lost his regular place in central defence last season. Stones only made 16 appearances in the Premier League under Pep Guardiola.
According to Football Insider, Stones is unhappy with his current situation at the Sky Blues and wants to play regularly in the future.
Guardiola himself recently emphasised that Stones, despite his reserve role, is still firmly in his plans: „Jack played a lot last season, but he has played less this season. In this team you have to perform consistently well many, many times. We know each other very well. We will need him in the last part of the season and of course in the future.
Kompany would like to lure Stones to the Isar
According to reports, Bayern’s designated head coach Vincent Kompany is a big fan of Stones and would not be averse to luring him to the Isar if the defender were to land on the transfer market in the summer. The two know each other from their time together at the Citizens.
The 71-time England international, who made it into the European Championship squad for the Three Lions, can not only play in the centre of defence, but also on the right side of defence.
His contract in Manchester runs until 2026 and Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at just under €40 million.
