The purpose of the Paris 2024 Olympic Test Event was to provide a replica of the actual event, but a year in advance. It is training for the real thing, but also a measure of things to come. So, what happened in 2023?
France and The Netherlands got the most gold medals with three, while the total medal count had Great Britain and France with five each, followed by The Netherlands (4) and Italy (3).
While The Netherlands proved ready at the 2024 Olympics, leading all nations with four medals, the British got two, well short the expectations which come with being the leading sailing nation.
“There’s no doubt the racing and weather conditions in Marseille have proved incredibly challenging,” noted British Sailing Team boss Mark Robinson. “While we leave with two medals, it hasn’t been the overall team performance we’d have hoped for.
“But we will recognize what worked well and what didn’t so that we can adapt and grow from these learnings moving forward to enable us to continue our reign as the most decorated Olympic sailing team in history.”
