LONDON (ANP/DPA) – Italian footballer Sandro Tonali, who has already been suspended for ten months, must fear an even heavier punishment for his gambling behavior. The English Football Association now also suspects the Newcastle United midfielder of violating the rules on fifty bets in England between August 12 and October 12 last year. Tonali received his ten-month ban from the Italian federation in October.
Tonali (23) has until April 5 to respond to the new charges. Afterwards, it may also become more clear about a possible punishment.
Newcastle United, which took over the footballer from AC Milan last summer for at least 63 million euros, has announced that Tonali is fully cooperating with the investigation. “Because the case is still ongoing, we cannot say anything further about this for the time being.”
